Giving

Luke 6:38 "... for the measure you give will be the measure you get back" (New Revised Standard Version)
Lord, I don't really want to give.

I want to get, to treasure, to hold
fiercely
my loves.

I am fragile, brittle
- You know, You made me -
so needy, so vulnerable, so seen.

Others know me as a giver
planting hope here, a dream there,
strength for the way.

But You know me deeply,
see the layers of apparent wisdom
peeling and flaking,
disclosing a darkly present grasping,
a dying.

I give You my hardest gift,
the vapours of my inly emptiness.

Spirit now my giving
with Your full presence,
in good measure
the loving.
