Ice Skater

I Kings 19:14,18
All eyes watch
the beauty,
breathlessly,
marvelling at her swirl and pace
on ice,
alone.

And they watch for the tiniest faults,
so obvious
like black silhouettes
on that white frostiness,
as if snap frozen,
all the better to be analysed.

But another beauty
is the one who skates
in company,
movement complementing movement,
symphony enfleshed.

Sometimes, these companions are invisible,
in the crowd, or beyond it,
wooing, praying,
weeping at each fall,
loving,
feeling the delicate music
inly,
delighting in the artistry
of a life
in tune,
pleasuring,
praising.
