Christ Vision
(Before a Mirror)

'It is no longer I that live, but Christ who lives in me...' Gal.2:20
Is it really
that the Christ
wears these eyebrows,
such a prominent nose
and balding pate?

Likes these clothes,
my choice of movies
and friends and recipes;
knows the dreams
and hurts,
memories and turmoil,
within?

I, who see the all-loving One
in others,
peer and probe
myself
with a certain trembling,
hoping for a glimpse
of such a vision
that, it seems,
could fire a thousand
transforming prayers
and newly wise sacred things
beyond imagining.
