Global Warming and Perturbations

October 8th, 2009

Been this way for a long, long time

What if I told you it was all a lie?
Al Gore lied. Who would you believe?
Right - who am I?
Maybe if I explained where I'm coming from,
In so many words, would you hear me out?
Now, I'm not going to try to snow you, but
Get your thinking cap on - you'll need it!

The earth sits in a rather complex part of the galaxy.
Right now, in your life time, you have seen the
Earth orbit around the sun once times your age in years.
Now, multiply this number by several million (years)
During which time this earth has heated up and cooled off

Not just once or twice but thousands of times.
Our planet perturbations, coupled with those of the sun,
Will tell you positively - "Been there, Done that." Period!

Perturbation is a term used in astronomy to describe alterations to an object's orbit caused by gravitational interactions with bodies external to the system formed by the object and its parent body (for example, a star and its planet, or a planet and its satellite).
Global warming may be a trend, a real phenomenon. It is NOT man-made, and the time frame involved far transcends anything we may hope to manifest control over. We will, as has always been the case, evolve to adapt to the reality of our situation. Time frame: thousands of years.

Quiet Time

October 5th, 2009
Home is across the lake

along the far shore,
where the house rests
and the family does what
you know must be done

for the night;
reading kid's stories
or turning down the covers.
more likely than not

it will be quiet soon, and
time for me to return.

as soon as I'm done here.
letting the peace settle,
letting go, I'll row back.

Wine and Cheese

Savor the taste

Good day it was,
One of those 'keepers' that
Offers itself rarely, that
Develops slowly, without plan.

That's the best part, not
Imagining feelings in advance,
Making no effort but simply
Enjoying the moment, and
Savoring the taste when it's ripe.
